Subject: My Loan, My Choice
Dear Decision Maker:

I am writing to express my opposition to legislation that would establish the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.

As a consumer, I don't understand how creating another new agency will financially protect me. In fact, I think it does the opposite. Why would anyone endorse a committee of non-elected bureaucrats to regulate how, when, and from whom I can borrow money? I am a responsible hard working person; I can certainly be trusted to make my own financial decisions without the government telling me what to do and how to do it. I make choices based on my needs and independently choose who can best fill those needs. I do not want those choices removed.

I have watched as the government has tried to control the health care, automotive, banking, and energy industries, but I draw the line with the government creating the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, which could regulate any personal and installment loans I take. For example, if the installment lender I have been going to for years is deemed "unfair" by the agency, I will be forced to go elsewhere - if I can even find a place that will give me a loan.

As with any transaction, the cornerstone of consumer protection must be personal responsibility. I am an informed consumer and I will always be the best judge of what financial products are appropriate for my needs, not another federal agency like the Consumer Financial Protection Agency.

I urge you to vote NO when this legislation comes up for a vote in the fall.
